profundity of random strangers

Tue Jun 28, 2005, 11:22 PM
I met a man on the train the other day, and he said this:

"I used to go to the opening shows of galleries and ask the artists about their work, but then I realized that if they could use words to describe what they were thinking, they'd be writers."

Trains have always been mysterious things..... *smiles distantly* Same thing with subway trains - they go underneath the world and pull out miraculous things, random they might be.

I've always loved the idea and the atmosphere that trains and subways have, even though I've never been on one. Their 'aura', if you will, are always so alluring. :) ^^

Sorry - I'll stop being philisophical now.

Heh heh. So true!

My art professors (one in particular) felt it was important for us to learn how to articulate what we were thinking as we created our works. One of his points was that it made us think more carefully about what we were doing throughout the creation process, so we didn't come out with a "just because" type of reasoning. Still, a lot of my classmates really struggled with it. :) We're all just visual people.
